Mandingo - Savage Rite

English group Mandingo released this album on EMI in 1977. Besides sporting a fabulous cover, it contains a hectic, hard-rocking kind of afro-funk. There's a cool version of The Chakachas classic funk track Jungle Fever (though, here it's called Jungle Juice). King Of The Jungle is equally good and The Man From Takoradi has a nice blaxplotation feel to it.

Various Artists - Motown Instrumentals

The title pretty much explains it all. From what I understand, this is a pretty obscure record. A couple of the songs are instrumentals to old Motown hits and another couple of songs are new. Released in 1977 on Motowns Natural Resources Label. The sound quality of this one is a little rough at times but that's due to issues with the sound of the actual record, not a glitch in the ripping process.

David Liebman - Light'n Up Please

A very groove oriented outing by David Liebman, who is perhaps most famous for his time playing alongside Miles Davis. I would actually say this album should be judged as a funk album rather than as a jazz album. AMG trashed it in their review, but I think, apart from a couple of snoozer moments, that this is pretty fucking groovy. And it should be, since James Browns old partner Pee-Wee Ellis is producing and playing. Its not a fantastic record but definitely worth checking out if youre into jazz-funk.
This record isnt very expensive, I just checked on ebay and there was a ton of used copys there if you should want to own it.

Isao Suzuki Trio - Black Orpheus

Another album by a bassplayer, this was released on the japanese Three Blind Mice label. This one has actually been reissued recently, but I imagine that in some parts of the world it might be tough to to find as anything but an expensive import. However, if you really like it I urge you to buy it.

The session features Isao Suzuki on bass and cello, Donald Bailey on drums and Tsuyoshi Yamamoto on rhodes and piano.

The sound is mostly jazzy with a hint of funkiness on Manha De Carnaval, which is also my favorite track on the album (the rhodes sound especially lovely on that one).
