Stu Gardner and the Sanctified Sound

Don't call it a comeback. But yeah, it's been a while. Anyway, here's a funk and soul album from singer-organ/piano/clavinet player Stu Gardner. Released on Volt (Stax) in 1974. For some backstory on Stu, check out this or that. This album has a couple of players in common with the Charles Wright LP I posted some time ago, namely Charles Wright himself, who contributes with some guitar and drummer James Gadson.

Black Music: Betty Davis

I've got something new for todays post. In december of 1973 the first issue of a brittish music magazine called Black Music hit the shelves. Lucky for me, my dad picked it up. He also bought a ton of other issues of above mentioned magazine. This is an article on Betty Davis from the november issue of 1974. If this is appreciated I can easily put up more articles like this (Herbie Hancock, Gil-Scott Heron, The Blackbyrds, The Meters).

Tsuyoshi Yamamoto - Misty

Some more Japanese jazz released on the Three Blind Mice label. This is from pianist Tsuyoshi Yamamoto and was recorded in 1974 together with Isoo Fukui on bass and Tetsujiro Obara on drums. Very nice, chilled out jazz for them quiet afternoons.

Odell Brown - Odell Brown

Organ-izer Odell Brown released this jazz-funk album on Paula Records in 1974. It's mellow, funky music and Brown plays both organ and rhodes (the electric piano is actually featured more frequently than the organ). A nice record all the way through. No info on the other players (if you know, clue me in).

Richard Davis - Dealin'

This album was released on Muse in 1974. The first side is made up of a couple of funky jazz groovers while the second side is on a more mellow tip. The session is led by bassist Richard Davis, who also wrote the tunes. Marvin Peterson is on trumpet, Clifford Jordan on saxophone, Paul Griffin plays Piano, Rhodes, Organ and Clavinet, David Spinozza plays guitar and Freddie Waits is on drums.
